Trip #7: Miami - Senior's Tour & FABIO

February 30th, 2007.

Jess & I are OFFICIALLY addicted to spanish soaps. Apparently, somebody gets slapped every episode! It's great! So today we slept in then got picked up for a "bus & boat tour" aka the "senior's tour". Surprisingly the seniors we met were pretty cool. The one couple we talked to were from the states but have travelled all over the world as teachers. They somehow managed to guess Jess's background is menonite - they were that good at reading people!

The bus tour took us around the city, through downtown, and into the coco __ shopping district. What did we do? went for ice cream with the seniors. yep. Wheras other people were smart and power shopped for cheap shoes. damn. Next we went to Little Havana which was the best part by far! There were Cuban cigar/coffee/bakeries everywhere! Apparently cubans have a HUGE influence on Miami in anything from architecture to politics. Everyone would sit out on their front steps with their families vs backyards. Anyway we got to see the domino parks wherer seniors play similar to chess parks - with the umbrellas and tables everywhere.

Much tipping later - we find our way to the boat tour. Some guy from boston has managed to latch on to jess and i....no no he was actually normal & told us we HAVe to do our MBAs. I just let Jess talk to him :) Sorry jess !

So essentially this boat tour took us along the ocean front property owned by famous people. Famous people's homes included: Shaq, JULIO Englasias, Gloria Estavez, and one (previously owned) by Vanilla Ice. Oh yeaaaaaa.

The homes were gorgeous! Scratch that - their LAWNS were amazing: vivid green everywhere. Unfortunately we did not spot any celebs - instead we would wave hello to the lawn care staff who would blow kisses back. haha. Here is a pic of Julio's house:
Oh yes did I mention Cuban men are HOT? yup. :) So after the tour we went back to the hotel....watched some more soaps and went to the HAIRSALON!

Earlier I had convinced Jess that she should get a new haircut (she's had the same one for like 10 years)! So we figured if she's going to chop it off - she's gotta do it with style....in MIAMI! So she gets paired with a stylist - a flamboyantly gay latino man named FABIO. It was hilarious....Fabio and I flipped through magazines together and both had a eureka moment when we came upon a Jennifer Aniston hairdo...it was perfect! It turned out great. So yes if you get the chance - definitely get your hair done in Miami!
